Teachers will explore research-based strategies to enhance reading comprehension and writing skills across the curriculum. Participants will learn and implement ideas to improve student achievement in reading and writing in the content areas. Participants will:
- identify and use materials to develop specific reading skills in the content areas.
- examine and implement literacy strategies to help readers.
- learn strategies to help students comprehend texts before, during, and after reading.
- select and use strategies to improve vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension instruction in different content areas.
- learn techniques and strategies for writing
- show evidence of the ability to vary instructional methods to meet learner needs.
Essential Questions:
- What strategies do good readers use?
- What value lies in instructing students on strategies to use before, during, and after reading?
- How can teachers best assist students in improving vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension skills?
- How can teachers enhance students' writing performance across the content areas?
Minimum Class Size: 10
RESA will provide a book for use during the class. The book will need to be returned upon completion of the course to receive your transcript.
