Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards - Are you wondering what Georgia's New K-12 Learning Plans will look like in your classroom? In this session we will break down the components of a Unit and its Learning Plans. In the morning session, participants will spend time answering the questions:
What am I teaching?
Why am I teaching it?
How will I know they have learned it?
We answer these questions through the lens of the Eight Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices, the Mathematical Practices. Additionally, we look at vertical progression, as well as horizontal progression (how will this topic develop throughout the school year).
Then, in the afternoon, we will explore how to implement the lesson in the classroom. Here again, we look at the effective teaching practices, the mathematical practices and the 5 practices for Orchestrating Mathematical Discourse. Additionally, we will pull in elements of Peter Liljedahl's work, Building Thinking Classroom. Teachers will have time to collaborate and complete a variety of learning plans using various teaching routines and strategies. Time will be given to reflect and debrief.
Participants will need a laptop and internet access for this session.
